For the first time since 1878, Dallas will experience a total solar eclipse. This is only the 4th time it’s happened in Dallas since the year 1,000 AD. It won’t happen again for at least 350 years.
Workshop Leader: David Downs
We are still working out the details on this one, but we will be in place for the full 2 hours and 39 minutes of the eclipse, plus time on the front and back end for those timelapsing or wanting to be prepared. We will have multiple pre-workshop Zoom sessions to ensure everyone is fully prepared when we experience the 3 min and 52 seconds of totality and a post-workshop session on editing these unique images.

If for any reason the weather prevents us from being able to capture the eclipse, we will pivot to Dallas Street & Architecture Photography. For those who decide not to participate, a full refund will be given.

TBD but in the Downtown Dallas Area.
We will set up no later than 10:30 AM, well before the eclipse begins to make certain we have our location occupied and will stay until shortly after the eclipse ends which takes place at 3:02 PM. Based on preparatory work, we may meet earlier for the purposes of capturing foreground images.
Transportation is via personal vehicles. Where practical & necessary we will group together for the short ride over to our determined location if parking isn't immediately adjacent for multiple vehicles.
Recommended photography gear
DSLR or mirrorless camera – Crop Sensor or Full Frame
Lenses - Ultra Wide Angle (14mm-24mm) & a long telephoto (300mm or more).
Filter(s) - We will discuss filters well in advance of the event so everyone has plenty of time to acquire what is needed for their individual lenses.
Sturdy Tripod - Doesn't have to be expensive, just sturdy.
A remote trigger or the ability to activate shutter delay
Extra Battery & SD Card
Depending upon location there may be room for a chair or stool to provide a respite from standing for almost 4 hours.
A water bottle and snacks since we won't be going ANYWHERE for lunch.
We will have a very narrow window to capture our totality images so everyone will need to be 100% ready to go. This workshop will likely have preliminary assignments to make certain each participant is as prepared as possible to take advantage of our short moment of opportunity.
