Workshop Leader: DeLania Truly
Benton Downs is offering its first photography workshop for women only in March 2025. Set in the Texas Hill Country, the workshop will allow you to enjoy the beauty of spring wildflowers, wine country, and other great photographic opportunities. The itinerary strongly focuses on the highways and landmarks around Fredericksburg, Marble Falls, and Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area. We will seek great photos throughout the day, with the possibility of capturing an early-season Milky Way.
Late March is often a great time to capture Bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrushes, among other wildflowers. This area also has many beautiful landmarks, wineries, interesting architecture, and history.

Location
Texas Hill Country locations include Marble Falls, Fredericksburg, Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area, Dripping Spring, and Southwest Austin. Departure will be from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Airport pickup may be available at Austin Bergstrom (AUS)..

Level of Experience
This workshop is designed for any level of photographer, from beginner to pro. For the beginner, you will receive professional support and instruction based on your current skill level. For the advanced photographer, you can add great images to your portfolio and build new friendships.

Location/Lodging/Meals information
Lodging (two queen beds per room) will be provided for participants. The price includes double occupancy. A single supplement is available for an additional $300. Free breakfast will be available at the hotel. One group dinner and the wine tasting/tour are included in the price. The participant pays for other meals.
Physical Requirements
While the area is called the Hill Country, most walking will be short hikes with minimal elevation changes. We will walk through fields and dirt roads, so appropriate shoes and pants are recommended.
Agenda
Day 1: Depart the Dallas-Fort Worth area early in the morning to begin the journey to the Texas Hill Country. We will share lunch and make one or two photo stops before arriving at the hotel in the Dripping Springs area. We will enjoy a sunset photo opportunity and dinner in the evening.
Day 2: Our group will tour the Marble Falls area for sunrise and morning photos. After lunch, we will take an afternoon break to rest for a sunset shoot and a potential Milky Way overnight opportunity. The day should bring plenty of opportunities to capture images. We will also take group and individual photos before the sun sets. Weather permitting, we will
Day 3: Let's head to Fredericksburg, known for its great downtown shopping area, wildflower farms, and wineries along Highway 290. We will leave later in the morning to tour one of the wineries and vineyards and enjoy a wine tasting. We will head back in the afternoon to enjoy a beautiful sunset with wildflowers as our focus.
Day 4: Before returning to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, we will visit a few more iconic sites to capture more images of our beautiful wildflowers. We should return in the late afternoon with our memory cards filled with awesome images and great memories with our fellow female photographers!
Transportation
We will coordinate transportation from Dallas-Fort Worth (or an airport pickup from Austin Bergstrom if needed). Final transportation arrangements will be determined based on the final participants and their base locations.
Recommended photography gear
DSLR or Mirrorless camera – Crop Sensor or Full Frame
Lenses - Wide Angle & Medium Telephoto (example: 24-70/24-105). A longer lens or macro lens are optional based on your desire to capture specific images.
Sturdy Tripod - Doesn't have to be expensive, just sturdy. This is especially important for long exposure images.
A neutral density polarizer will be beneficial in removing glare from the water's surface and neutral density filters will give you an opportunity for some longer exposures to capture moving clouds, etc.
